Bushmen don't get depressed

So many people are so anti-people. It bothers me, even though I know that we all do stupid, inconsiderate things.

Ever notice that we have food, running water, shelter and choices, but it's still so hard so so many of us to find a little happiness? I bet Bushmen don't get depression or bi-polar disorder.

That's it for now.

Smoking

Is it possible to explain to a non-smoker the connection between smoking and drinking? Why is it SSSOOOOOO hard to go out, have a few drinks and smoke outside? Why are bars supposed to be places where you are allowed to subject others to your habit?

Just for the record, in Montreal, for example, if the noise is too great at one place, you can find a quieter place. If the atmosphere is not up to snuff at one place, you can find an alternative. But you can't go anywhere without dealing with the smoke. Nowhere.

How did smoking get banned from offices and such? Why isn't smoking banned from other places of work, like bars and clubs? If smoking is so necessary, then why aren't employees given special protection, or at least some kind of "danger pay"? Or do people still deny the second-hand smoke factor?

Yes, drinking is dangerous. Pollution is a very bad thing. But how does the existence of any or all of those things justify making other people smoke when they don't want to, just because they want to see live music, or enjoy a jovial atmosphere (like a bar)?

People always try to cite economic reasons why smoking should be allowed in public places like restaurants. I won't get into the ethics of letting money have too great a role in determining public health policy, I would like to know if anyone can produce stats on how Ottawa's bar/club scene has suffered since banning smoking, or Kitchener-Waterloo (I think) or California.

I don't get smoking at all.
